SenseTive-a revolutionary remote monitoring system for prenatal care
Bakground: The annual rate of fetal mortality in Sweden has remained largely unchanged for the past 30 years, varying between 3.7 and 4.1 out of 1000 births (Sterpu et al., 2020).Over the past decade, clinicians, researchers, public health advocates, and parents' groups have raised the profile of fetal mortality, also called stillbirth, as a public health problem. Stillbirths account for more than half of all deaths occurring in the prenatal period. The causes for fetal death are multiple but often include preventable and monitorable maternal complications Nearly 30 to 50% of fetal deaths remain unexplained, this gap is the main obstacle for prevention strategies.
According to the WHO, all pregnancies hold a certain risk association. Approximately 15% of all pregnant women will develop a potentially life-threatening complication that requires expert healthcare, and some will need major obstetrical intervention to survive. The current pandemic was a showcase example of a burden on doctors and the overall health care system - posing a higher risk to pregnant women to visit hospitals for a prenatal check-up.
Our team sees an opportunity to help midwives, doctors and expectant mothers by connecting them remotely by a low energy consuming device and share maternal and fetal information- ameliorating the sense of safety to parents, and at the same time give the ability to the healthcare providers to better follow deliveries by reducing the complicated ones and their associated costs.SenseTive is a smart pregnancy monitoring kit that revolutionizes maternal health control improving the health and well-being of women and their babies via personalized prenatal care.
Through real time monitoring of parameters such as the mother’s oxygen saturation, uterine contractions and heartbeats along with the fetal movement and heartbeat, early detection of conditions like preeclampsia and gestational hypertension can be rapidly detected.
The data collected from the device are fed into a digital platform where comparisons to historical reference data are conducted by utilising a machine learning algorithm. The information is presented in an comprehensible form to the expecting parents while a more detailed picture regarding the status of the pregnancy is provided to medical professionals and healthcare centers.More information can be found on : www.sensetive.se
